Research Philosophy
The research philosophy of the UCSB Chemical Engineering department recognizes the need for multidisciplinary collaborations between its faculty members and those in other departments. Engineering science has become very complex, usually calling for teamwork and expertise in different areas to achieve success. Many professors in our department have joint appointments, write joint grant proposals, and share students, post-docs, visitors, and facilities. Many graduate courses are cross-listed, both across departments and between undergraduate and graduate students. We believe that our collaborative spirit is one of the reasons UCSB is recognized as one of the top Chemical Engineering programs in the country.
